I finished a book called Lucy and Her Secret Wood by Christina M. Pagès.
It is about a girl named Lucy and how she was left alone in a forest and
discovered the natural beauty of nature there. She meets a boy there named Will
and they become great friends. They eat food that Will brings and explore the
woods together. Lucy becomes friends with the birds, the trees, and all of the
animals the forest, especially Grandpa Tree who has a hollow trunk where she
sleeps. Will even gives Lucy a recorder, which she learns to play wonderfully. A
poet finds her and asks her to play. Lucy becomes very attached to the forest,
but one day the police find her and they take her to an orphanage. She hates it
there, but luckily the poet and his daughter are thinking about adopting Lucy,
so she goes to their house for a weekend. While Lucy is there, she goes back to
her secret wood and has a mysterious vision….
Lucy and Her Secret Wood is a wonderful
story. It shows that you should take time to be outside and explore instead of
being cooped up inside. It would be a great book for a family read aloud, and
it would be good for ages 7-12. I cannot wait for the second book in the
series, Lucy and The Woodland School of Wonder! Again, it is a great
book!
