This is a review for not just one book but three. They are
as follows, Star Wars: Verily, A New Hope,
The Empire Striketh Back, and The Jedi Doth Return. Another name for
this series is William Shakespeare's Star
Wars Trilogy. These books take the classic Star Wars tales and familiar
characters and put them in a new setting. Written as Shakespearean plays, the
lines are numbered. They also come with illustrations throughout of all your
favorite characters in their usual costume but with a Victorian twist. They
also include all our favorite memorable lines from Star Wars, put in Shakespearean English. I can't put into words how
much I loved these two things brought together. Even if, like me, you have seen
these movies more than you would care to admit, these books shed a new light on
the story. Even at the end during the final climatic battle between Darth
Vader, Luke Skywalker, and The Emperor, which like hundreds of other people I
know by heart, I was clutching the book and read those last moments of the
battle in which Darth Vader finally finds redemption completely sucked in.
For Shakespeare fans, Star Wars fans, and fans of great humorous literature I highly recommend these books. And if you do enjoy them as much as I do, you'll be happy to know Ian Doescher has been now working on translating the Star Wars prequels into Shakespearean format. Two prequel volumes are already published.
I hope you enjoy this and as the first book says on the
inside of the front dust cover "May the verse be with you".
